Toronto's Beauty
Espen Grundetjern, our Norwegian Street Fighter colourist at UDON, is here in Canada! He contacted us on crazy-short notice to let us know that he and his girlfriend had secured artist-Visas to travel to Canada for a year. With one suitcase each, his computer and some money they'd saved up, they booked a flight and were headed to Toronto. Such a crazy adventure for them.
Anyways, flabbergasted but also not wanting them to be stranded or have a bad first impression of Canada, I picked them up at the airport yesterday and offered them a couch to crash on for a few days while they search for an apartment and settle down. They were willing to grab a hotel but I figured it would be silly for them to spend that kind of money right from the get-go if they didn't have to.
Today we toured around Toronto a bit and they were truly amazed. It was actually an eye opener for me as well. I've been here in Toronto for so many years and I sort of take everything for granted - the cultural melting pot, the greenery, the architecture, the city's size and intense variety - all of it. Watching their eyes light up at the sights and hearing their remarks at how incredible it all is reminded me how lucky I am to live and own a house in this city. Their excitement is infectious.
I would love to help them more this week, but Erik and I are flying down to New York on Tuesday morning for a Capcom press event and other business networking we need to get done. It's going to be a whirlwind one-overnight stay, but it should be fun too. Capcom's Street Fighter IV advertising is ramping up and unlike past years, where our comics were practically the only Street Fighter products released at all, we're right alongside all of it. Hopefully I'll get to finally try SF4 hands-on.
Anyways, a lot of stuff on the go. Thanks again to everyone who complimented me on the D&D artwork. I can't wait to show more of the recent artwork the whole UDON crew has been plugging away at.
