Here's the third and final part of my tutorial walking through the process for this illustration.

I hope you find it useful.

Pure gold, Zub. While I already knew a lot of these techniques, there was a lot of things I had never considered, and having it all on convenient .jpgs is nice, too! Thanks a lot!!

People pay $1800 a class in over-priced art schools to get this kind of information sloppily sprawled over a semester!

Great tutorial... I want to get more into the digital painting aspects of photoshop as opposed to the straight color separation I've been doing with it for my day job. I want to put that last sentence about these programs being tools on a billboard. Too mnay people think they have the "tools" so the ability part is void. It's like trying to hammer a nail with a screwdriver if you can't use the tools properly.

Many Thanks.
Don

Found the time to read the first one, had to steal the time for the next to right away. As everyone else is reporting, good job. Thanks for the tips, I will have to give them a try myself.

Found you via drawn.ca -

I've been thinking of getting a wacom, any advice? I'm solely a mac gal, don't know if that makes a difference.
Thanks!

I know you weren't asking me, but my unsolicited advice is to buy the largest one you can afford. The ratio of tablet size to screen size has been much more important to me as a working artist than levels of sensitivity or anything else. Colleagues of mine disagree, and seem to do all right with the smaller sizes, but I like being able to move my stylus, say, 1/8" and have my cursor move 1/8", too.

I use my Wacom on my Mac and teach with Wacoms on PCs at a design school, and I find no appreciable difference.

This will sound like a paid endorsement (it's not, although I would dearly love it if someone would pay me), but please go buy yourself a Wacom. Once you start using yours regularly, you'll wonder how you ever lived without one.

Best-

Michael

I just bought a Wacom Cintiq after having a Wacom Intuos for a few months. The difference is amazing. Painting almost feels like actual painting. I know it's super, super expensive, but it's worth it.

I may not draw very well (yet) but drawing in my sketchbook with a 4b feeels the same as useing my intuos to me after only a few months of use.
