Calgary Expo Pin-Up 3
Another year, another western-themed charity piece for the upcoming Calgary Comic Expo. :)

It's weird looking back at the pieces I put together for the two previous years. I keep feeling like my art skills are standing still, but then when I actually look at the old stuff and compare I can see an improvement.

Here's the illo for this year. This time everyone's pics are in full colour:

If I get some time this weekend maybe I'll post a step-by-step of it, tutorial-style. Playing with textures and trying to get a pseudo-watercolour look for the background was fun.

dude, that is hawt!

Love it.

Trying to figure out if comic-con's a possibility soon, I can't WAIT - wish I could do Calgary too.

Thanks, I like how it turned out... though I think there's another western pic I did for you that turned out even stronger :)

Definitely let me know which cons you're going to and if another podcast is in the cards.

Oh, yes. That was excellent! /huggles it

Sure, I actually got a call from the Dinis this weekend about a podcast but this time "I" couldn't make it.

*sigh*

lmao

Sweet! That looks fantastic (and of course, I highly approve of the green-eyed redhead theme...).

This is gorgeous. Evokes some of that old European comic feeling.

Yeah, that looks fantastic. You will have to show me the watercolour look some time. You've been improving alot, in the last little while especially if you don't mind me saying so.

Looks awesome! I feel like in real life, she would have short thighs and very long calves, which is kind of hot!

I think it's gorgeous! I can't quite work out what she's sitting on or leaning against, though. Is it a shallow two-legged stool of some sort, or some kind of attachment to the gas pump? (Sorry.)

stool? chair?

I kind of wondered about that too.

Nobody noticed the Udon gas and the bowl with chopsticks?

Yeah, the chair is my least favorite part of the piece. Her right leg is directly blocking the front facing leg of the chair and also blocking the back far leg of the chair in perspective, making it look like she's just leaning against some two-legged stool thing and flattening it out weirdly. It's far more awkward looking than I would have liked. I should have positioned her legs differently to show the chair more clearly.

It's something I probably would have just changed digitally, but the original art for this piece is being auctioned for charity at the con and I didn't want the line art to look vastly different from the final illo.

Besides the green-eyed beauty I love the details. Right down to the Band-Aid on the gas hose!
